Cope. Stainless steel, Steel, Cast Stone, Electric Components, 14'x13’x12’, 2012.
COPE is a large scale outdoor monument installed at Riverside Park South. The monument was erected in June 2012. Standing almost 14 feet tall, it is comprised of five towering structures that rise up from the ground like steel blades.
Each tower houses a figure within, only viewed through one small opening. All figures are illuminated inside the towers by solar power lighting. The aim of the artist was to design and create an environment for the audience to interact with. The monument’s high pillars and contained figures inside evoke primal feelings of solitude to create a personal, visceral experience.
COPE was de-installed Sunday, May 19 and moved to its new home at The Vytlacil Campus, 241 Kings Highway, Sparkill, New York.
